Rum Cuillin Traverse with Wooly. 12 hour trip starting and finishing in the dark. From Kinloch via Coire Dubh to Hallival then onto Askival. Descent into Bealach an Oir then steeply up Trollabhal. Scrambling near top then out and and back to summit. Fantastic! Cross the Bealach an Fhuarain then ascended the steep shoulder low on Akival on the W side crossing to the E side in strong wind to gain the top via good but very steep path. Easier terrain now over Nameless Top (Leac a'Chaisteil) and onto Sgurr nan Gillean. Descent to Dibidil down S shoulder and curving east lower down. Visit to excellent bothy at Dibidil and then along reasonable path back to Kinloch. Glorious sunshine and clear skies all day, cold and sometimes windy but he views to Skye, Eigg and the other Small Isle was wonderful. A great day.John Lee30/10/2023
3 of 6: From Leac a Chaisteil. Weather now clear. Missed the east path start but spotted it after 2 mins. Soon down onto it. Snack at the bealach then after 10 mins on Trollabhal we saw Tall Blonde at the bealach. Waved. With Tim.ChrisR06/05/2023
Avoiding the ridge seemed like a good idea, but took me 12 hrs to get round coastal path to Dibidil, up the hill, and same way back.tallblond06/05/2023

Rum Cuillin traverse, overnight at Dibidil bothyHuwel09/07/2021
Day trip from Mallaig - Saturdays give you more than 10 hours! Rum Cuillin then down to Harris, over Orval and Bloodstone Hill to Guirdil then back to Kinloch - you can do plenty when you run!quadbarrel19/06/2021
Round of Hallival, Askival, Trallaval and Ainshval from Kinloch Castle. North ridge, slight path around west side of lower crags and east side of upper crags. No serious issues but it is steep all the way and some scree is unavoidable. It is an arduous way back around the corries to Coire Dubh, follow contour lines through the steep scree or drop down below the screes into the grass and reascend, your choice.Topographer5714/07/2019

Day 1 of two-day backpack from Kinloch. Coire Dubh - Hallival - Askival - Trollaval - Ainshval - Sgurr nan Gillean - Harrisdavidpettit8427/05/2018
with MVW from Kinloch via the Coires to Bealach an Fhuarain taking a high contour, the top took longer than anticipated due to banked snow on E side. took more direct line across Bealach an Oir to ascend Askival by W ridge where Manx Shearwaters were and returned same route back to base to end a very long day.Frank07/04/2018
Overnight in Dibidil bothy then ascent of Sgurr nan Gillean. Did not enjoy descent to coll between Ainshval and Trolleval, very tricky.KevPalmer26/06/2017
A very late start for a skulking route in torrential rain and mist, to bag Ainshval. Far too foul and late for any route other than Atlantic Coire, but...at the Bealach an Fhuaran, the rain stopped, the mist began to lift, and the sun came out. Awesome views from the top. Very soggy people couldn't face anything other than ducking out via Loch Fiachanais and the track, but were rewarded with a very nice walk and superb views on the way back.Gill10/06/2017
Split the Rum Cuillin on my week's holiday on Rum. Today, walked Kinloch- Dibidil- Sgurr nan Gillean- Ainshval, then round the corries back to Kinloch. It was a shame not to have time to do Trollihbal, but this walk was fine, including the path to Dibidil in very dry conditions, a first rate ridge walk after the slog up Sg nan G, and an alpine style path marked with a few cairns avoiding difficulties (but not the mystique of the mountain) to descend Ainshval.pwheeler07/06/2017

Sunday ferry and walk in to Didibil bothy and afternoon ascent of the three southern tops. Didn't pick best line up onto ridge so some harder scrambling than I had planned. A fine day.dickscroop29/05/2016

MMC trip to Rum. Day 3. Perfect day for traverse as overcast, light wind, high cloud. Technically easy but long ascent from final top and a dreadfully boggy walk out the Papadil/ Dibidil track. 13 hoursalexmaclennan18/05/2015
Mad one day dash w Jenx due to weather forecast, dire Sun-Tues so early boat Sat and scamper round Rum Cuillin tops and back for last boat home. Great hills, all Corbetts, Graham and odd other top for good measure. Ok traversing lines between cola made for quicker return to start.nordicstar14/09/2013
round of askival, trallval and ainshval.robertphillips24/08/2013
with Darren during a brief heatwave for a dream 40km peak fest around the island in an enjoyably tough 26 hours between ferries, travelling KIMM style with a wild overnight camp half way round. Much easier going now after an anxious & uncertain down climb/scramble from Trallval - phew!Chris Pearson25/07/2012

from Trallval. Gingerly back down to first tower and beyond to a cairn at start of descent. Many steps down to rubble paths around towers to bealach. Almost blown off feet by strong hot SE wind gusting from valley. Faint path up over horrible white scree to ridge then a distinct path up for 500' to top at 14.50.arranc11/08/1997
