From Munwhul ATV tracks can be followed from gate most of the way. Then SW top, Gairy of Pulnee and Cairngarroch. A fantastic viewpointcolazione25/02/2023
From Munwhul, straight across forest road to gate. ATV tracks slowly rise uphill making the going very easy almost all the way to the summit. Solo.Dangerous Dave08/10/2022
From Black Loch car park on forest track to NW of Poultrybuie Hill. Small cairn marks start of ATV track up SE ridge to a fence. From here a path leads past 2 large cairns and up ridge to the summit.Winterfloodian23/09/2022
Parked at Bruce's stone car park and followed the Southern Upland way to White Laggan Bothy to find a path that can be followed to the Bealach between Bennan hill and Gairy of Pulnee, from here the route took in Bennan hill, Gairy of Pulnee, Millfore and Cairngarroch, you can drop off north to follow the Droughandruie strand to reach the southern Upland way and retrace your steps back to the car park. Eighteen miles in Eight hours with 4000ft of ascent. (parking on the bend south of Craigencallie house and walking West to White Laggen Bothy would make the route shorter)WAYNE ROWLETT11/07/2022
Took the tent to Castle Douglas for the weekend, parked at Auchinleck on Saturday 18th June. Headed westerly around forestry tracks before gaining Garlick Hill (trig has no reference plague) then north to Larg Hill, east across Lamachan Hill, Curlywee and Millfore (trig had no ref plague either). Then turned south to Drigmorn and back in car, 09:45hrs all in, dry all day, but a cold strong wind. Tried these hills in March but fallen trees blocked my ascent up a fire break, hence the circular route around Garlick Hill.chillyman818/06/2022
From Black Loch with Jan up track then decent atv/path to summit of Millfore. Then cross country over to Cairngarroch (decent path from stile) before returning to Millfore. Gairy of Pulnee was left for another day.SS09/04/2022
Day 2 of my Newton Stewart weekend. The single track road to the start was not over provided with passing places. Steady walk up forestry road and onto open hillside with some semblance of a path in places. Slow but steady progress. Windy on top.langskill03/04/2022
Started from A712 just E of Craigdews. Followed vehicle track and crossed to path running above W side Tonderghie Burn to join forestry road until NW of Poultrybuie Hill. Short rough ascent to Poultrybuie Hill, then back to track for a while and then short climb to nice summit of Munwhul. Back to track and across to walk N around W side of (felled) forestry to reach ridge and steady ascent to Cairngarroch (quite complex summit area, visiting various high points as well as the cairn. Returned along ridge and continued to Millfore, the interesting top of Gairy of Pulnee, back to Millfore SW top, easy descent S and across to Fell of Talnotry. Descent through forest ride and then rough felled forest to forestry road followed on S side of Black Loch and back to start. Mainly misty and drizzle but some clearancesRobertP23/11/2021
M600 with Rick & Douglas from forest track just south of end of minor road south of Craigencallie House. followed forestry track SW to disused quarry then follow easiest line WSW to summit. After whiskey & cake went on to SW top then back over Millfore summit following atv tracks to Cairngarroch.mntainman09/11/2021
Drove in on minor road & parked near end of road south of Craigencallie House. Followed forestry track SW to disused quarry then follow easiest line WSW to summit. Grey & windy at summit. Then off to bag the P11 called Millfore SW Top where it was calm + sunny. Back over Millfore for sunny summit photographs for SS's M600. Then onward to Cairngarroch on easy ground before a porridge like descent back to the car underneath.Dugswell209/11/2021
Walked up with KBTA StaffRO-702326/09/2021
Low cloud at 500m. Lonely climb to the top to be met by 3 people (2 parties) in the middle of nowhere in limited visibility. Totally missed the White Lochan of Drigmorn despite being metres away from it on ascent, saw the ripples on descent though! Later on climbed other Graham, Lamachen.Jhimmy29/08/2021
Parked at disused quarry to the E (NX 4889 7578). Ground very rough for first 100m to fenceline, then improves. On to the SW Top and Pulnee then return for a short 6km round.jonglew14/08/2021
From Black Loch using the cairned quad bike tracks for a while. No view on top and ambushed by heavy rain on descentColin Crawford31/07/2021
Parked near bend on single track Craigencallie road, just near start of forestry track. Walked to the col between Munwhul and Millfore, then struck up hillside to top. 460m climb in around 90 minutes.willyross30/06/2021

From Black Loch car park, up forest track to about NX490742 where a small cairn marked the start of an ATV track, which led to a hole in the fence about 500 further on. There the tyre tracks disappeared, but going wasn't too bad beyond. Would have been nice if the cloud had been higher so I could see my surroundings, mind! Solo. From Black Loch car park. Followed track/mountain bike trail round black loch and up to a point N of Poultrybuie Hill where I made short side trip to include this hill. Continued northwards on track , hoping to find a stile to get over the fence and ascend Millfore. Couldn't find stile so climbed over fence (topped with barbed wire). High up joined path coming up via Kirkloch. From Millfore went out to SW Top and back to join the Kirkloch path for the descent. No barbed wire on the fence that needs to be crossed on this route so my outward route was a mistake, really. A beautiful sunny day.pwbellarby31/05/2021
From Curleywee, an easier journey than it appeared. Last hill of a round of Larg, Lamachan and Curleywee. 16miles, 4300', 8 hoursMichaelF18/05/2021
From Glen Trool. 26.77km, 1457m ascent, 8hrsHuwel25/02/2021
From Black Loch. ATV track from col (490742) goes to fence at(488747). Ridge above Kirkloch then has reasonable path.49pp16/10/2020
Climbed with Teddy from Black Loch. Had been here previously on the OMM 2006.jigglybones26/09/2020

Parked near the bend on the single track Craigencallie road. Good forestry track to the col between Munwhul and Millfore, a faint path to Munwhul and a surprisingly easy ascent of Millfore. A pleasant stroll to the SW Top (at least it would have been without a fierce south-easterly) and on to Gairy of Pulnee, descending by the White Lochan of Drigmorn and cutting across to Cairngarroch surprisingly easily and with only moderately damp feet. The descent from Cairngarroch, though, is a nightmare of tussocks.Nick Down121/03/2020
From parking area N. of Craigencallie House, up Cairngarroch. From Cairngarroch, a fairly straightforward walk over decent terrain (dead grass & the odd bit of heather). Made use of intermittent paths, ATV tracks & animal trods; fewer of these after crossing stile in fence S. of col. Continued to Gairy of Pulnee & Bennan Hill. (S)gerrybowes18/03/2020
from Lamachan Hill, bypassing Curleywee on south. Back to Glen Trool via Loch Dee.IanHHill16/05/2019
4th top of 11 today on a 30km route from Auchenleck car park to Murrays monument car park, climbing Bennan Hill, Gairy of Pulnee and Millfore SW top, heading NE to climb to the top, recording 666m @ NX 47814 75456 and 667m @ NX 47857 75483. Non-stop rain. Continuing by descending East to Munwhul, slowly and steadily in the difficult terrain...Dazingdale26/08/2018
Up and down in three hours from Black Loch. Murk and wind today. No view.Play2End23/07/2018
Parked at 502773 and followed the forest road to the bend at 488758. Headed directly to the summit. Solo. Over to Gairey of Pulnee.bolton06/05/2018

From Black Loch car park (although the track is drivable a lot further) up the Kirkloch ridge returning by the south west top (this was a mistake in that the forestry is a mess).SS17/09/2017
Alone, on a circuit from the end of the road by Clatteringshaws Loch, including White Laggan Bothy.Grinner17/09/2017
Solo from A712, track junction, as vehicular access to Black Loch P was closed so had to walk 1+1 additional km. Followed track around BL, up through partially harvested forest to gap NW of Poultrybuie Hill and then NW over rough and steep, at times, ground. Going was tough in v hot conditions (25C in car at end) with only a little wind high up. Visited trig pillar and two cairns, lunching behind NE one. Descended on upward route but diverted over razed forest ground which was somewhat tiresome. Met two cyclists struggling up track, on my way down. First visit was on 19/10/2007.jacobus24/07/2017
No obvious path to my novice eyes. Strong winds at top meant taking in the view was brief.Longwojo12/06/2017
Parked at 502772. Tempted to drive further up the forestry track but no unauthorised vehicles sign. Good track to 488757, then unpleasant up to the summit in mist, rain, wet ground, pathless and poor underfoot.Owen B21/05/2017
Climbed up Millfore to the trig the steep route from the forest track, then along to the true summit and then to Drigmorn Hill before taking a rather more difficult cross country route back to the forest.meltdiceburg11/03/2017
From A712 as Black Loch car park was closed. Forest track to highest point then ATV tracks onto open ground to summit. Returned by same route.benalder28405/03/2017
A very enjoyable walk from Black Loch via the Kirkloch ridge. The Black Loch is lovely and has a really fine statue. Easy going through the forest, and no forestry operations despite signs saying that the track is closed for felling. Once on the hill, there's relatively little rough stuff, except the bit from the forest track to the fence, but intermittent ATV tracks can be followed soggily on this section. Up the fence to its highest point and then over it. I had expected the thick mist and rain to make the navigation 'interesting', but there's a decent faint path most of the way.Gill19/02/2017
C/W round of cairngarroch, millfore, milfore sw top, gairy of pulnee, bennan hill, scars of milldown, lamachan hill, craignaw, mulldonach from craigencallie house.robertphillips12/06/2016
Last Hill of my 15 miles overnighter lovely hills a bit rough lower down.mick30/05/2016
On Craigencallie- Cairngarroch(qv for details)- Millfore- Red Gairy- Gairy of Pulnee- Loup of Laggan- White Laggan- Craigencallie walk. This took 7 hours and revealed the interesting ridges and lochans of Millfore very well. Buckdas of Cairnbaber gave good walking to its lochan, then up the N slope, then most interesting terrain, first Millfore's SW summit ridge, then above broken cliffs to Gairy of Pulnee, then winding my way pleasantly to Loup of Laggan. The path down from here was a mess, but round Loch Dee was lovely: Cuckoos flying round and Goldeneyes, with their ducklings, by the loch. Fast walk back then on forest roads.pwheeler14/05/2016
Black Loch carpark, track to high point, then pathless to summitFlatfield23/08/2015
Last hill in this area before heading home. Easy climb from tracksnickywood116/07/2015
