Came along the Rig of Jarkness and over the North Top. Descended on rough ground to the SUW then a long road walk back to Glen Trool car park. Solo.Dangerous Dave28/01/2023
From Bruces Stone out Gairland Burn path, easy crossing then a line became a tod became a path as I headed up to Rig of the Jarkeness. Bit messy at subsidiary top. Returned by doubling back to a shelf that dropped to the south ridge (west of main south ridge). Good going once on slab but tough once you got off it. Headed to high point on SUW then back to car.SS15/09/2022
Difficult path up tussocks, then rock final ascent.RO-702317/08/2022
Parked at Bruce's stone car park and followed the Southern Upland way to the gate that would lead the open hill side from here I followed a very rough cow trod all the way the summit, returning the same way. (A better way may have been a loop taking in the Rig of Jarkness and Gairland burn path) Eight and half mile in Four hours with 1900ft of ascent.WAYNE ROWLETT16/07/2022
From Bruce's Stone car park. Followed Southern Upland Way to its highest point on the forestry road where we crossed the stile. Thereafter it was slow going as the cattle had chewed up the ground. Best to stick to the highest ground on this section. Heard a goat but didn't see it. No cattle at this time of year.Crumblie227/03/2022
Walked up from Bruce's Stone. Pitched tent at Loch Valley and nipped up Craiglee and it's N Top. There are animal/human tracks most of the way along the Rig of the Jarkness.sclater19/03/2022
From the upper Glen Trool car park (NX 4159 8046). SUW to Glenhead, then headed off piste over saturated ground with all burns in full spate in a roughly due E direction to Mid Lump, then NE up to the North Top before headed over to here for a Dumfries and Galloway 'all hills' completion. Moral support provided by Adrian.jonglew02/10/2021
Tough walk in over rough ground, back via forestry track. With Jon Glew for his D&G completion. Rain held off after a deluge before we started.Adrian02/10/2021
An out-and-back from Bruce's Stone car park in disappointing weather and across disappointing (hideously cow-trodden) terrain. Recorded route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.com/2021/06/craiglee-nx461801-531m.htmlGayle13/06/2021
A Tough Hill!! Approached from White Laggan, crossed Dargall Lane which was horrendous and then the cattle trodden ascent of Craiglee via some very rocky outcrops. Descended north east waded through a boggy forst which made the river crossing incidental before heading back to Craigencallie.jigglybones10/10/2020
From Bruce's Stone car park, up Southern Upland Way to 449786 & over stile by farm gate - Beared right across muddy gateway & within 40m picked up a well-used ATV track - Along ATV track for 300m or so & then up onto slabby ridge which heads ENE & the NNE up to trig point. The ecologically valuable deep hoof marks & cow pats of the highland cattle are widespread across the hillside. (S)gerrybowes10/09/2020
There seems to be no difference between stopping on the logging road at Craigencallie and continuing as signposted to Loch Dee. And while you're at it, you might as well park at the watershed and walk up the SW ridge of Craiglee. Lower ground still trashed by cattle, though none seen. Higher ground trashed by goats. In between, there is a decent path of sorts that takes you through the worst of the long grass. Stunning views all the way and you'll likely see the goats.Gill20/08/2019
10th top of 11 on an Epic 35km traverse from the Forest drive near Loch Riecawr to the Minor lane leading from Caldons to Glen Trool, climbing Macaterick. Hoodens Hill, Mullwharcher, Dungeon Hill, Craignairny, Craig Neldricken, Craignaw, Meaul, Craiglee North top and eventually arriving at the Trig point, after severe winds and heavy rain, the sun started to shine as light began to recede. I still had to get down and headed towards to the Southern Upland way, taking it for a short time for heading up towards Mulldonoch, my final hill and an exhausting ascent...Dazingdale11/10/2018
With Franni Baggins. From Glen Trool: Merrick, Kirriereoch Hill, Mullwharchar, Craignaw, Craiglee. Do not attempt unless you have strong ankles.raffemeister13/08/2018
Parked at Craigencallie and completed a 16 mile walk culminating at the summit of Craiglee (523m). The temperature today was around 30 degrees for much of the walk although we left summiting the hill till the evening when it was dropping. Very clear skies and a burning sun were definitely the theme with little shelter even on the approach as most of the forest has been felled. Great views at the top, excellent geology up here and very dry underfoot today.meltdiceburg28/06/2018
6th and last of day after a great solo walk in glorious conditions. Good time of the year to do this as vegetation has not recovered from winter and it was dry. Descended Rig of The Jarkness to Gairland Burn and back to car at Buchan. Just over 8 hours, 14 miles for C. Neldricken, Craignairny, Dungeon H, Craignaw and Craiglee.bolton07/05/2018
From Bruce's Stone C/Pk with Steve G. Via Rigg of the Jarkness (great name, but very slow terrain) to summit trig before dropping down to head of Loch Narroch (stile) for Craignaw assent.Smudge24/03/2018
With SmudgeSteveG24/03/2018
Drove from home to Glen Trool with the motorhome. Walked to the SW ridge then up rough, wet terrain to summit. Returned same way, just as darkness was falling.NormanW19/10/2017
Southern uplands way from the Glen Trool Car park. This was hard work as cattle have churned it up. Saw herd of wild goats at trig point. Continued and via Dow Loch to camp at the northern end of Loch Valley. Mrs Mindlessflogger managed to fall into a rock crevasse on the rough descent off Rig of Jarkness.mindlessflogger16/09/2017
From Craignaw. Easy to pick a way south through the grass and slabs. Was going to go straight up to the ridge, but found a faint path contouring upwards in the right direction. The heavens opened with a heavy rain shower and a little hail, cleared just before the summit trip beautifully sited on the highest rock. Purgatorial descent west to Glenhead, cutting across the grain of the land, zig zagging down steep sided slabs, across lumpy and wet long grass and heather, across numerous rills. Probably better to descend SSW or SW to the track.Owen B20/05/2017
From Glen Trool carpark, at high point of track through gate and follow faint path towards summit. Nice and dry underfoot today.AndrewFinnimore08/05/2017
Glen Trool, Southern upland way then north to summit, down to wild camp at Loch Valley.Flatfield14/04/2017
From Bruce's Stone (8:45) took path (boggy but not too bad) to L Neldricken. Fainter path along S shore, trackless thereafter - hard going in long grass. Followed stream then ridge on L to top (11:25). Huge granite slabs. Sunshine, great views. Continued down S ridge, across valley and steeply up to Craiglee NW ridge (Rig of Jarkness) and to summit (13:40). Hard going low down in deep trackless grass; easier on granite higher up. Down SW ridge (easier, grazed by cattle) to S Upland Way and thus back to car (16:10). Lovely day.dbb02/10/2016
From Glen Trool, along the Southern Upland Way and up the open hillside. With MT.Sprog05/06/2016
Parked at Bruce's Stone car park and took trail up to join Southern Upland Way east to its highest point on the bealach. Then worked our way over Corse Knowe and easily up by rocky terraces to the summit plateau and on to the summit. Walk continued to the NE Top. With AT.Man of Kernow105/06/2016
Parked at the end of Glen Trool then walked to the south beach of Loch Neldrickery before climbing NE to Craignaw with Chris Watson. Then we headed south via Snibe Hill and Craiglee N Top to Craiglee before returning via the Rig of Jarkness.Dugswell204/06/2016
From Bruce's Stone (Glen Trool) via Rig of Jarkness. I went over natural stepping stones and followed tracks to a bay on Loch Valley S side, then quite easily on to the Rig. An intermittent path emerged by the first little col. Lots of knolls by the summit- altogether charming. Plenty of granite slabs, little lochans, and easier going- bare ground between the tussocks. Like this all the way down the SW ridge to the pass bearing the SUW. When I was there, it was possible to drive from Clatteringshaws Loch and park- this would give a quick and easy ascent but I preferred my 6 hour walk in this fine wild countryside.pwheeler15/05/2016
Late afternoon tramp from Glen Trool via Rig of the Jarkness and back via southern upland wayN.Morters22/04/2016
glen trool suw then direct over rough ground back rig of the jarkness.robertphillips13/08/2015
From Glen Trool forest road direct up to Long Loch of Glenhead - beware, boggy - to the Rig of Jarkness then summit. Continued to Craignaw.neimcv14/04/2014
From Bruce's stone, down to SUW. up ridge to summit and back along Rig of Jarkness. So windy that I had to crawl to summit and couldn't stand up. Wet and misty as well. Shame as it must be an excellent viewpoint There is a faint track along the crest of Rig of Jarkness. Gairland Burn can be difficult to cross when it is as wet as today.Thearlaichdubh16/03/2014
Gairland Burn, Rig of the Jarkness, Craigleeborderterrier06/10/2012
W Jenx, Glen Trool CP. Grand tour of Marilyns and tops to east of Merrick. Buchan Hill > Rig of Loch Enoch > Mullwharcher > Dungeon Hill > Craignairny > Neldricken > Craignaw. From Loch Narroch a 200m pull onto Rig of Jarkness and Nrth top > Craiglee! Still being trashed by cattle. Direct descent west to Glenhead in valley, rough ground but downhill.nordicstar21/07/2012
On route Glentrool - Mullwharchar - Craignaw - Craiglee - Southern Upland Way - Glentrool. Cattle are grazing this hill, roughing up the soft ground with their pervasive hoofprints and making it uncomfortable to walk on.Topographer5723/07/2011

Revisit. Fine shapely granite hill, rough tussocky surroundings. Conveniently near OMM Mountain Marathon control CV. Stream to S was jumpable despite rain of previous day.RHW29/10/2006
From visitor centre in Glen Trool. Across burn on forest track and out of forest. On SUW on open moor, dead tussock, swamp and boulders progress uphill to left of rocky prows. Struck right to final tussock slope above crags to trig at 13.00. No cairn. Ravens.arranc13/02/2004
Ascended from Buchan's Stone via Rig of the Jarkness.JohnW10/09/2003
Headed south from Craignaw to the east bank of Loch Narroch. Then headed steeply uphill to the Rig of the Jarkness. Passed to the south of Dow Loch before ambling round to the top.garyhoney30/06/2003
Rough track as SU Way diverted at bridge for timber operations. High cloud, cold wind, good views.iangalbraith18/02/2001
Date is first visit. Notes from later...fine summit, tough approach. drive to 460785, ford L Dee inflow, direct ascent RHW18/11/2000
Forded into Loch Dee with Rob to gain access.Eddie18/11/2000
With Rob & Eddie on a fast blast up and down scattered marilyns. Drove to point due south (which saved a substantial walk in and out) then wade across the loch inflow where water calmest and less rocks than stream bed,Chris Pearson18/11/2000
From Glen Trool and Loch Dee.Alan Moore02/06/1990
Estimated date of first of several ascents. From Loch Trool following the path towards Loch Valley & then leaving that to head E over Rig Of The Jarkness to Craiglee. On that first trip carried on N over Craignaw and Dungeon Hill to Loch Enoch & then back via Lochs Neldricken & Valley, but a better, less soggy return route goes along the Rig Of Loch Enoch & over Buchan Hill to the start. Rough going even by Galloway standards.NotReallyABagger01/07/1988
