Mill Knock, Big John and Cairnharrow. Impressive stone walls enclosing these fields. Farmer must have a lot of spare time. | colazione | 06/01/2024 |
From Cambret Hill descended on intermittent tracks across Cambret Moor to a gate. Followed ATV & animal tracks up through dead bracken and heather to the summit cairn. Back same way to Corse of Slakes Road. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 11/10/2023 |
Staying in Creetown at Barholm hostel in company of Alan,a long distance walker and some energetic cyclists. Drove as far as possible up steep, narrow lane, parking by gate onto fell.Very warm day, glad of the breeze as we climbed higher.Rewarded with panoramic views after our exertions.Relaxed and picknicked on summit. | Peak Rambler | 22/06/2023 |
From cattle grid on Corse of Slakes Road via Cambret Hill. | vuirich | 09/06/2023 |
As others, parked to S. at 522533. Access road through wood now in a very bad state - Along to end of road & barn enclosure (no barn!) & then along S. side of wall to ridge; gap in first wall corner & over bwf & low wall at second wall corner - ATV track until final 150m & then up alongside wall. Both trig point & summit cairn easily accessed over low stone walls. | gerrybowes | 11/05/2023 |
Parked car on ( my ap showed ot as a yellow minor road - not so sure - looked and felt like farm track) , north of Barholm, at the end of the forested area, enough space to tuck carin and not block gates.
A forecast that was going to bring rain and wind. Plod alomg track, through several gates , and where yellow ‘road’ ends, look for an ATV track. This is your friend. Follow, and eventually you will reach the top.
No views for me. Soaked. Returned the same way with no deviation. | VerySlowPlodder | 12/03/2023 |
From Kirkdale Bridge then track towards Cleuchreid then turned off after second gate up through two walls to open hill and ridge. Followed wall to trig and cairn. Pulled along by Ben the lab for much of the way. | SS | 20/12/2022 |
Parked NX5224753318 with blessing of farmer. Not possible to drive further as the track deteriorates and there is nowhere to park. Walked up track to gate at NX5252254245, then second gate at NX5278054349. Then up to ridge. | PeteF | 26/10/2022 |
1/4 Marilyns. Parked at the cattle grid NX 52600-58400. Decided on a direct southwards assault, but lots of rough, heather, fern and boggy ground. Plus a barbed wire fence, later on saw a gate - doh! Returned by way of the stone wall and longer route which was much easier. | Jhimmy | 31/07/2022 |

With Teddy. Parked along the road to Claughreid. Followed the wall up on a beautiful day. Took in Barholm Hill and a cache on the way down. | jigglybones | 27/02/2021 |
From the track N of Whiteside Bridge along the ATV track beside the dyke running W under Ben John and ascended via Barholm Hill. Descended E via the cairns above Whiteside Plantation. | Slightly Mad | 30/12/2020 |
Second attempt. Access from the mast road/Cambert Hill can be very wet. Parked easily before Cambert Farm and then easy walk as per Gill. | dave g | 31/08/2020 |
The Whiteside track through forest and onto an ATV track to a large stone wall. A good track runs along the south side of the wall to between Mill Knock and Ben John. Bagged both via a series of animal and ATV tracks, before heading to Cairnharrow, again along a series and animal and ATV tracks. Pretty good ATV track heads back to north of Whiteside. | summitter | 11/07/2020 |
MC JC O. From access road to mast. V. cold, strong west wind. Dropped down to a large interesting burial mound with the remnants of a stone circle behind. Crossed barbed wire fence through an old gate and straightforward ascent by mixed mossy and deep heathery ground. Returned by approx same route. | Martin66 | 14/12/2019 |
From mast access road over Cambret Hill descended to col then steep ascent to trig and cairn. Great views. 90 minutes. | Longwojo | 26/05/2019 |

From Cambret. Passed through gate after house, down to the stream and up by a buggy track, similar to Gill’s route. | Lionel Bidwell | 24/03/2019 |
Rough yellow C Class road to NX525542. Parked near wide section at gate. Dirty beyond near cow barn. Went via NX53383 55281 where there is a good through stone crossing over high stone wall. From then brilliant quad track almost to the summit. Set up short wave radio for SOTA behind wall to keep out of wind. | G4OBK (Phil) | 22/02/2019 |

On my way home from Minnigaff meet. Up and down from Whiteside, no time to extend walk to other hills. | NormanW | 25/03/2018 |
Parked halfway up Cambret Hill mast access track. Rough ground and a bit boggy across the col. Trig pillar a few metres S of summit cairn. With Alex C. | jonglew | 23/03/2018 |
Very windy at the top, but the sun came out and it really brightened up on the way back down. Felt decidedly pleasant and springlike on the return to the car. | Alex C | 23/03/2018 |
A nice walk from Cambret Farm. This road is in excellent condition, and there's a good parking space just before the farm gate. Through a gate just before the farm buildings, easy dry field to the small river (easy to cross), then an ATV track comes and goes a bit up towards a wall, which you then follow up to a gate at the point where the wall joins a fence. Through the gate, then up the broad ridge to the summit, linking up good dry grassy sheep tracks with little need to do any heather bashing. Nice views from the top. | Gill | 22/03/2018 |
From cattle grid to N, clockwise round Pibble Hill, Meikle Bennan, Scar Hill, Kenlum Hill, then hard work up the NE slopes. | agentmancuso | 30/09/2017 |
From Lagganmullin over Mill Knock,Ben John,Barholm Hill and down the east ridge to Whiteside. | ARM | 17/09/2017 |
From cattle grid at top of Corse of Slakes road via Cambret Hill. Sunny, but very windy. | Winterfloodian | 04/05/2017 |
From high point on old road near masts access road. Quick crossing of Cambret Hill then dip to cross the walk near ancient Cairn and up slopes to summit. Fine views for a quick lunchtime walk. | N.Morters | 27/04/2017 |
I was that friend! (See Chris Watson's log). Anyway I think I've found the easiest way up - and no risk of puntures! From Whiteside, off-road parking, through gate and gradual ascent with a couple false summits. Easy ground at first then plenty ATV and animal tracks take you to the summit. Views to Lake District, Isle of Man and N Ireland. | AndrewFinnimore | 26/04/2017 |
From Cambret Hill. Followed the wall to the top. West side of wall is better. Rough terrain nearing the summit. | Owen B | 05/11/2016 |
From track end at NX527584. Up tarmac track towards Cambret Hill masts until just after cattle grid, then followed ATV tracks almost whole way to summit. Route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.co.uk/2016/09/cairnharrow-pibble-hill-and-white-top.html | Gayle | 03/09/2016 |
Drove up to the masts on Cambret Hill - ATV tracks across to summit. | Chris Peart | 20/07/2016 |
Parked at 526547 close to the gate. The road up to here has now deteriorated and needs care. About 250 yards uphill behind the barn there is a large gap in the wall. From there a half decent track takes you to the ridge. There are quads tracks, if you can find them, that get close to the summit. Solo. | bolton | 07/07/2016 |
Drove up the recommended road from the south but it is in a bad state of repair. Got away unscathed in my Avensis but a friend in a camper van got a puncture the following day. Probably could not manouevre around the problem areas as easily as me. | chriswatson | 03/06/2016 |
Parked in wide area by gate off lane north of Lagganmullan at NX 56354 55277. Took lane north to near Whiteside Farm. Then through gate into field and followed east ridge up to the summit, using various sheep tracks. Two walls to climb, but easy. Walk continued to Ben John. solo. | Man of Kernow1 | 02/06/2016 |
2nd of 4 Marilyns done today. Went up to the radio mast using the road then descended to the col. Initially I was wading through the vegetation on the way up from the col in a straight line for the summit. Then headed over to the dry stone wall and noticed an argo track running up the other side of the wall. Crossed over the wall and later recrossed it to get to the true summit. Fine views from the summit and a nice trig. Descended using the argo track all of the way to the col, reascended up to the masts and back to the car. Lovely fine sunny morning. Glad that it was fairly dry. Done solo whilst Seumas was at his grandparents. | assynt_bob | 20/04/2016 |
Part sunny, cold wind, mild, good views, from mast road. | iangalbraith | 07/04/2016 |

From end of access road to masts on Cambret Hill then across boggy pathless moor to Cairnharrow. Returned more directly via stone circles. | milimana | 08/04/2013 |
W Jenx, parked at end of Barholm road - as Viewfinder - through gate and parked at barn (room for 2 cars) end of public road, bit rough! Through gate on track and along to next wall, then direct up hill to top wall w gate. Onwards to higher ground, snow build up significant on top. Good views. Trig in wall junction lower than cairn. | nordicstar | 17/03/2013 |
Barholm Hill, Ben John, Cairnharrow, Cambret Hill | borderterrier | 06/11/2011 |
From public road end at 526546. The ground was rough but made easier by a few vehicle marks on the main ridge. There was summit fog but it soon cleared to reveal nice sea views. | Topographer57 | 22/07/2011 |
Ascent from Whiteside Farm, return via Ben John | Phaedra | 28/11/2010 |
