| Flew into Cork Airport around 09:15, picked rental car and got some lunch in Blueberries Bakery, Mitchelstown. Then posed for a picture next to the Welcome to Tipperary sign. So we (Richard Moore, Trish Teeling, Nicky Creadland and I) didn't start the walk till 2pm at the Loch Curra car park. Attempted a counter clockwise loop, but encountered an American squatter, which claimed to own this land. So we doubled back and headed up the glen, for a pathless steep ascent to Lough Diheen. Then onto the Galtymore ridge, then mist pulled in on the for the final pull. No visibility on the summit of Galtymore, my first Irish Furth. Headed west along following the 'path' west of Loch Curra, on the shoulder northward. Back to the car for 8pm. | chillyman8 | 13/07/2023 |
| 7.6 mile walk from Galtyway car park. We followed the well defined path up to the slopes of Galtybeg, then a rough trail through the bogs up to the summit of Galtymore. Fortunately all the bogs are dry at the moment. We descended the same way back to the car albeit a little divert to Galtybeg (it had to be done!). | From Glengarra, following trails in forest, continuing up to the col N of Knockeenaloung, tracks to col between Galtymore and Galtybeg, then ascending Galtymore, returning same way. | From The Black Road CP. Leaders of a half marathon came out of the side track just ahead of me from King's Yard. Spoke to some runners on the steeper sections. At the top in 1h 15m. Cloud came down just before reaching the top. Back markers asking me where the others went. The squall cleared 5 mins after I started my return. Then all fine and clear! | From Clydagh Bridge via Slievecushnabinnia(qv for details), starting out on the Loch Curra walk. Increasingly gloomy weather so done on a compass bearing. The cloud just lifted off Galtymore so I returned via Galtybeag(qv)- the return in fine weather. | A bad day. From road above Skeheenaranky. On bridal track to open moor into mist 50m vis. On compass over tussock and swamp to hags in the col and 700' up to top. 12.50. On return, Sadie had a severe spasm and died later. In great distress we carried her to car - about 1 1/2 miles. Poisoned bait used on the hills, but supposedly not within 200 yds of public footpath, with notices saying land poisoned and removal of poison in hours of daylight. None of this was done. Vet confirmed that Sadie had body of 5 year old ( she was 10 )and had been poisoned by strychnine. Stomach was almost empty but contained a sheep's liver with strychnine. | Solo. From a point near Ballygeana. I walked up N ridge (slightly to west of Lough Curra) to Galtymore Mountain. There are two high points, each with a fairly large stone cairn. It is difficult to say which is highest although eastern one has a cross below it and a separate wooden post on it. Frost crystals 2 feet long on cross (horizontal). It was a clear day but very cold with a biting wind. There was frost at all levels. There were a few small snow patches on the highest parts. | pwbellarby | 28/01/1987 |
