Parked in one of many laybys at The Vee, a hairpin roadbend and view point and ascended a rough path steeply through brick via the Grubb Monument to the top of Sugarloaf. Then followed massive ridge path down and up to Knockmealdown, with trig and great views for lunch. Returned via Knockmoylan then north along ridge to Knockshane. Descended NW on intermittent path to forest track, down to rough track on east side of river. Bracken high on other side , although river would’ve been cross-able here, so continued south, staying on east side of river til reached metal footbridge . Ridge at c 100 m altitude then ascended back to The Vee on vegetated paths. Sunny and dry with warm breeze. | Denise | 22/06/2023 |
5.5 mile walk from The Vee col car park. Straight up the steep loose path to the summit of Sugarloaf Hill. We followed the massive ridge path all the way to Knockmealdown then headed back via Knockmoylans summit on a little trail. We avoided Sugar Loaf Hill on the way back. We saw 1 person. The weather was not our friend today. As soon as we ascended the whole walk went into cloud and apart from the odd glimpse of a view we barely saw anything. 674m ascent. | DanTrig | 12/06/2023 |

Parked in the car park at Vee Gap (IS 03061 10021), crossed the road, and took the eroded path up by the dike, very steep in places. This did not ease to near the summit cairn on Sugarloaf Hill. After visiting the summit I followed the path SSW to a wide col, then ascending to the SW top of Knockmoylan. A short diversion NE brought me to the main summit. Descending to a col, I picked up the path around the corrie rim, and up to the trig point on the summit of Knockmealdown. I then retraced my route back to the col below Sugarloaf Hill. I followed a boggy track down through the peat, eroded down to the rock in places, to join another north that eventually joined the path down by the dike to the road. 10.0km, with 685m of ascent. Arrived in Rosslare on the early morning ferry and after a brief stop for breakfast, headed straight for the hills. The weather was kind & I had an enjoyable day in the Knockmealdowns, an area that I hadn't explored before! Great to be home :-) | Gerry the Ranger | 28/11/2019 |

We started from the carpark where the R668 meets the R669 and went straight up the side of Knockealdown. We followed the path to the Sugar Loaf Hill and down the steep stoney path to the carpark at up past the Vee and little lake. We didn't feel like walking the road but we had to get to the car. A kind man who passed us, actually turned his car around emptied stuff into his boot and made room for us. We had walked 2 of the 4 kms but it was greatly appreciated. | Audi-Anne | 13/08/2016 |
