Roadside parking just S of quarry at SH900547 (NB on a fast, blind, bend, but I could not see anywhere to park, responsibly, near the RoW start SH913555). Good ATV tk from quarry, aiming for the summit. When it steepens, up L, one can go up this and then use thin FPs threading through tougher veg on highest ground, or continue on trackless, well spaced, easy tussock grass, either way to a 3 way fence junction and gate at SH913547. Then SSE, on good FP on E side of fence, to final heathery slope which has a very very thin FP up it, so more boots needed please | Isbjorn | 07/02/2024 |
Solo from quarry to the NW. Dry ground, animal tracks, only rough bit was final heathery slope. Elec fence wire doesn't look like it's worked for years since grounded to rest of rusty fence multiple places. Ham radio chap on summit. | Nick Canute | 03/06/2023 |

With Mo. Parked in the Glasfryn layby as per JulieB ( Thankyou!)then followed her route but anti-clockwise, so we got the rough heather early on. Should have stayed on the path for longer. So we had the easier Descent. Cows with young calves looked very dangerous. | gbeniston | 05/05/2023 |
From Alwen dam over Mynydd Poethand down to lane to south. Followed this to Craig yr iyrchen cottage SH946521 and through forest to junction at SH941528 where the row northwards no longer exists. NE to main track and on to edge of forest. Followed the main path NW to gate in fence and turned west along ok path alongside fence to summit where fence is easy to cross. Saw a Henharrier and 2 Cuckoos from shelter by trig. Back via Bryn y Gorsgoch. | Flatfield | 01/05/2023 |
Approach from the west i initially on a farm track which turns to faint grass trail. The route through grass is ok although a little wet. The climb through moss, heather and tussocks on final slope quite taxing. Nice shelter by trig pillar. Found a slightly roundabout path through heather on return. | cjo | 29/04/2023 |
with K including Mynydd Poeth | Fabioski | 25/04/2023 |
From the R turn on Fron Bella to the farm and up the tracks to the summit. Mad but lovely spaniel followed me for a while at the farm. Bit wet underfoot but not surprising after the wettest March since 1981. Good wind shelter @ top. Had a horse escort across one of the fields! | robphys | 02/04/2023 |
With Rufus. Nice to revisit this one again, same route as before from quarry. No electric fence this time, still boggy and heathery but the views are fantastic. | jacobrichmond | 29/11/2022 |
With: solo; Parked on A543, 1km N of quarry. Path seemed nonexistent but one along the ridge was OK. Aimed for the gate to avoid the electric fence. Last 1km was in deep heather and slow going. Rtn by same route. | Ian Baines | 08/10/2022 |
Parked in the layby just through Glasfryn, just before the garage (918503). Followed the track opposite up through several gates to reach the Hiraethog Trail.Followed this until it meets the path up the ridge at 904523, follow this to the summit. On the descent route tried to take the SE ridge to meet the path at 924534, but very heathery after the descent part which had an ATV track on it. Reverted to pick up the path that leads down from 919538 and eventually turns into a track then meets the outward route. Ascent route was a really pleasant route up. 6.8 miles < 3hr round trip. | JulieB | 05/10/2022 |
Parked in a lay by to the north 91647 56095 on the A543 walked back to the right of way at 91293 55513 and made my way up to the summit using various trods. Three mile in hour and a half. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 08/08/2022 |
Revisit for Dewey hills list. Again from the quarry to the west. Took me 10 minutes longer than when I did it as a Marilyn 4 years ago! | silverwolf_alan | 15/04/2022 |
from quarry as others 4.7ks 1hr 20 mins | underhill | 01/03/2022 |
Parked at Turpeg Mynyyd and followed good tracks/paths most of the way. | rhalstead | 25/04/2021 |
1st Marilyn of the year (thanks Covid). Room for 1 car by gate at SH912555. Ground underfoot better than I expected, sticking mainly with the fence. Crossing it at SH913547 avoids any barbed wire, then a bit of a heather bash on the final climb. Views from the top extensive - Clwydian Range, Berwyns, Arans, Arenigs, Rhinogs, Moelwyns, Glyders and Carneddau all in view. | huwthomas | 13/04/2021 |

Parked on grass verge opposite gate at 912 555. Straight line to summit. Rocks 2 to 3m SW of trig point higher? | CJM | 03/09/2020 |
Parked at good lay by SH916561 walked back up road to gate. (912555). Took a line south to gate at 913547, easy going, then SSE to summit, easy going except heather on final push with indistinct path. Good views, nice summit. | pog100 | 09/08/2020 |
Ad others from quarry to the east. Easy going mostly to summit, final heather can be bipassed with tge hill path that crosses. 2/2 Marilyn, good views. | N.Morters | 26/07/2020 |

With Rufus at dusk from the quarry on the A543. Took the track from the quarry until it peters out and then followed the ridge over a double fence line junction (electric fence potentially live) and then heather bashing to the trig point. | jacobrichmond | 18/03/2020 |

From A543 Bwlch Gwyn quarry track (SH900548) | Neil Midgley | 16/09/2019 |
It took us 2 days to bag this - 25/08/2019 - Hafodty Hafod Dre - Hiraethog Trail to point north of Tyn y n Wean - Path up onto access land - then via ruin and marker post near Ffynnon Llaethog (Spring) we head for summit but arrrrgh we loose the bright blue Luminex camera in the heather. After 2 hours of trying to find it we give up and retreated along path towards Fron Isaf (not bagging the summit) Returned 26/08/2019 - Blue and hot again bwe start from A543 (stone layby) near Bwlch Gywn (Old Quarry) - crossing Pen-Bwlch-y-Garnedd we bag summit and trig back down same way to celebrate with Banana Splits and the Riverside Café in Pentrefoelas (but alas the camera still lost to the heather). | briandavies | 26/08/2019 |
From old quarry same as others on a very grey damp evening. Rough track then some tussocks but ground fairly smooth though wet. Two barbed fences. A bit harder through the heather nearer the top but assisted by animal tracks.with elizyanne. | GmacT | 31/07/2019 |
Went up in the evening. Once path runs out you need to use landmarks to come back in on the path. Once you get there, good top with ruins of small holding. | elizyanne | 31/07/2019 |
On way to Bala Town v Accrington Stanley | Longwojo | 20/07/2019 |
Ascent of Mwdwl-eithin (532) from A 543. Parked at the old quarry, then no track across grass and heather moorland. A round trip of 4.9km with 130m ascent in 1h 10m. | silveracorn_alan | 17/09/2018 |
Parked at lay-by off A543 a little way N of quarry & approx 2km W of summit. Pleasant walk, with summit almost always in view on approach. | ger | 15/07/2018 |
From gate at SH912555 | Tony J | 27/05/2018 |
Parked in small lay-by 50m south of quarry near A543 summit. Followed track then increasingly rough moorland (tussock grass then deep heather) to summit. Back the same way. | davidpettit84 | 20/05/2018 |
From old quarry on a sunny evening. Rough track then some tussocks but ground fairly smooth and dry after a recent heat wave. Two barbed fences and up onto NW ridge. A bit harder through the heather nearer the top. | Topographer57 | 08/05/2018 |

Back in the area to make sure of the relocated summit at Moel Eglwys. Found four cans of cider left on a wall besides the A543 so it was a jolly bus ride back from Pentrefoelas :). | Twice Shy | 20/02/2018 |
Much harder than the height and distance from layby would suggest! Lovely views from the hard won top. | gettingonabit | 09/02/2018 |
Last hill of the day after an A55 bag fest, and a relief to get onto a proper hill after manicured paths. I'm very impressed by this wild and woolly moorland. It's an enjoyable walk, first on the track from the quarry, then mainly easy grass, and all bogs, tussocks, heather easily avoidable until the BWF. Bit of a blighter to get over, and then you have to cross another one, and then it's heather for a while, until the summit cone, when you can follow little paths on grass most of the way. | Gill | 25/11/2017 |

From Allwen Resevoir. Wet and windy!! | Alunrees33 | 12/09/2017 |
With Trefor. From west. Parked at old quarry. Track to start soon became sheep tracks then tussock grass and heather to the summit getting worse with height. Returned same route. Very hot weather. Hard work in high temperatures and 4th hill of the day. | mike.hoult | 20/06/2017 |
Parked at large layby 916561. Just a typical moorland walk mainly pathless and often boggy. Good summit cairns and shelter. | NormanW | 12/06/2017 |
Parked at gate 912555. Horrible terrain, gets worse near top. Mild, breezy, sunny and good views. | iangalbraith | 09/06/2017 |
From quarry on A543. Track for a few hundred metres, then tussocks & knee deep heather. Horrible. Driving rain & cloud right down. Not one of my more pleasant days on the hills, but a Marilyn, so it had to be done. Then to Bettws y Coed for the RHsoc AGM & dinner on Saturday. | ngthack | 08/06/2017 |
Parked by disused quarry on A543.Head South along footpath then fence line S.W. | jrj | 22/12/2016 |
