From parking to WSW, over Cefn yr Esgair, slow going across tussocks, a stream crossing up to house but then good ATV track almost to summit. My 4000th tump. Back down and across to Drosgol via FB.PeterD26/05/2023
Cycled to cottage and left bike there. Followed track around hillside then sheep tracks to top. Found on way down there is a good path from just before cottage on North side of hill that goes all way to top.richwales18/04/2023
From the car park near the memorial then track and open ground over Cefn yr Esgair. Down the eastern side, over a marshy hollow, then up an ATV track to Drosgol. The NE shoulder leads to a FB over the Afon Lechwedd-mawr and onto a wet and rugged path. We headed up Banc Llechwedd-mawr just before reaching the cottage, eventually finding an ATV track to near the summit. Back down this to a road running alongside the river, crossing it at a ford and into the forestry of Banc yr Wyn. Pretty horrible stuff, impossible to follow ROWs, but eventually we got out into pasture east of Bryniau Rhyddion, which we duly climbed before heading home to the camper and a cuppa.summitter30/11/2022
From parking area near memorial above Nant y Moch, followed track round to Nant y Baracs farm buildings and atv track almost to Drosgol summit. Descended NE to FB now shown on 1:25k map, and picked up another atv track shortly after starting to ascend Banc Llechwedd-mawr just before isolated house with solar panels. Circuit continued with N descent on obvious path through bog to Hyddgen, then to Bryn Moel, Foel Fras and Foel Grafiau. Picked up empty beer/pop cans on latter, perhaps left by those who created the wide, scarring biker tracks on the west side of the hill? Returned to car SW through woods.richard6920/10/2022
End to end 6.7 mile walk from Maesnant farm at the end of minor road to the (non existant) memorial !!. We followed track north to where it gets close to the river then we left track across grass and bog to footbridge. From there headed straight up the side of Banc Llechwedd-Mawr via various sheep tracks to summit. Descended via an ATV track which went all the way from the summit to down just past the new smart property at 762889. Followed the track back East taking a sheep track down to the footbridge to Afon Llechwedd-Mawr where there is another footbridge at 766888 up onto the ridge and onto Drosgol summit. Down the ridge in a SE direction occasionally picking up tracks until hit the obvious contouring path, but then followed down to minand walked around edge of reservoir (as very low) and up stream to where it was possible to cross at about 750 880. Followed track back around to car parked at the junction with the road.JulieB17/10/2022
Same route as Ian Baines foot swallowing tussock near bridge. 1hour20 to summit.rogreeves05/09/2022
Re-ascent of Banc Llechwedd-mawr and Drosgol from the end of the minor road by Nant-y-Moch Resr, this time to claim them as Deweys. 10.5km with 540m ascent in 3h 40m, making use of the well made footbridges.silverwolf_alan01/08/2022
Hard 5.6 mile walk from Maesnant farm at the end of minor road. We followed track north to where it gets close to the river then we left track across grass and bog to footbridge not marked on map. From here we ascended straight up the side of Banc Llechwedd-Mawr to summit. Then descended to Afon Llechwedd-Mawr where there is another footbridge climbing slightly easier to Drosgol's summit. We then retraced our steps to the bridge between the hills and made a big mistake; as we didn't want to walk back to the other footbridge we decided to short-cut back to where we had parked. We knew this involved crossing the river which wasn't too bad but the grassland both sides is hideous to walk through with no tracks and hidden deep holes, not to mention 3 barbed wire fences to cross! We have learnt from our mistake. Hot and sunny conditions. 536m ascent.DanTrig07/07/2022
Parked at derelict farm buildings and followed track to the bridge. Much to the consternation of the cows who ran away then observed. Felt like a long slog through undergrowth to reach the top but came down at a good speed. Gmac leading of course.elizyanne30/06/2022
Cross Afon Lechwedd Mawr at bridge 767.888 after descent of Drosgol. Head back west alongside fence to farm. Up grass to reach ATV track to top. Followed ATV track down to Ford River at 760.892 then RoW and track to car at 737.886Moorponder25/06/2022
from 736886 easy parking track to old nant a baracs up to Drosgol knee deep soft snow, down to foot bridge straight up Banc Llecwedd mawr flat top hard with deep snow but views to Cadair return to 'ford' easier to cross than thought just above fenceline then across bog to nant y baracs bog covered with soft snow and very wet underneath very hard walkingunderhill04/01/2021

With: hb; Parked in large space at SN773879 then walked along track above Maesnant. Crossed the boggy ground (which was dry) to the new unmarked bridge at SN779892 then ascended over easy ground east of the stream to the top. Returned by same route.Ian Baines27/07/2019

Marilyn Walk 116: Ascent of Banc Llechwedd-mawr and Drosgol from Nant y Moch Reservoir. A remote off track walk up grassy peaks in mist. Rivers crossed by foot bridges. 11km taking 3h 10m.silveracorn_alan14/08/2018
Second of seven Dewey's on a walk of around 20 miles from the memorial west of Drosgol taking seven and a half hours. Route started over Drosgol then after this one continued onto Foel Grafiau, Foel fras, Pen y Darren, Pen Creigiau'r Llan and Banc yr Wyn.WAYNE ROWLETT26/05/2018
From the old mine track upstream of Nant y moch. Two wet crossings which were deep enough to nearly fall in- just about managed to pedal through!. Left bike at the lived in Llechwedd Mawr cottage (amazing spot) and scurried up initially pathless but then on quad bike track. What a summit this is.. A definite wild camp spot. My penultimate Welsh Marilyn.. now off to the last un down Elan...stig_nest19/04/2018
From Measnant road end and footbridge at 780 892, then direct ascent.Lionel Bidwell25/10/2017
From dam car park, a round of Banc Llechwedd-mawr, Drosgol and Disgwylfa Fawr.rhalstead27/05/2017
Came over from Drosgol, dropping down off the NNW slpoes to the newish footbridge. As someone else has stated there are some deep wet holes in the area just south of the bridge. Then up the steep bank of Banc Llechwedd-mawr, using a walking pole for the first time - only one as I had to have the dog on a lead in the other hand because of all the sheep. Almost 60 and only just discovered walking poles! Returned S via the ridge, dropped down on an ATV track to the river which was easily crossed then up the nearby TuMP to finish the day.Father Ted22/05/2017

Nice walk round from the forest south to Drosgol via an almost impassible ROW which is an old leat. Then up the slope on better ground. Dropped down to the ruin of Drosgol Farm, then over the bridge and up Banc Llechwedd Fawr, then north past Hyddgen, Bryn Moel, Foel Graffiau and Foel Fras before dropping down onto a heavily eroded bridleway back to the car.Neolith11/05/2017
Parked by Nant-y-moch reservoir dam and did a counter-clockwise walk round the reservoir via Banc Llechwedd-mawr, Drosgol & Disgwylfa Fawr. Good long walk, some on rough ground. I took footpath by reservoir near Maesnant farm: non-existant path and very rough ground. Using parallel road and permitted path would have been a much better option!Cas-gwent10/05/2017

Via Maesnant road end, Plynlimon and footbridge 780892. Beware of deep and wet hoof prints around the bridge.Topographer5706/04/2017
Big parking area just south of road end. Out over Cefn yr Esgair to old farm buildings thentooks ATV track virtually to summit of Drosgol. Took north east ridge off down to footbridge then headed to renovated house and cut up hillside picking up another ATV track which again went nearly to summit of Banc Llechwedd-mawr. Descended same way and returned via bridge and contoured round Drosgol before taking track back to car.SS02/04/2017

A nice walk from the Monument on a January day with the bogs well frozen. Trainers and waterproof socks perfectly sufficient to cope with all bogs and rivers. Along the mine track to the farm buildings above Nant y Baracs. Easy across the bog, then straight up Drosgl in the sun, occasionally on ATV tracks. Fine views. Down to the bridge over the Afon Llechwedd Mawr. Easy going. Straight up Banc Llechwydd-mawr, to an ATV track along the ridge, unfortunately now in cloud and very cold. Back tracked down the ATV track to the ford over the Afon L.M., ankle deep splish splosh, then to a gate and an ATV track across the magnificent bog, only a few wet bits. Back via the track.Gill21/01/2017
Solo. From Maesnant. Followed track until bridge then cossed and steeply up to summit. Long tussocky grass lower down made hard work of some of the route. Weather fine but cooler than recently.mike.hoult16/09/2016
Nant-y-moch round. Yr Helfa Las, Banc Llechwedd-mawr(footbridge over river south west of junction of rivers) Drosgol, Cefn yr Esgair, Bryniau Rhyddion, Bryn Gwyn. 11 miles 3,000ft of ascent.ijpowell08/07/2016
After Plynlimon, down to bridge then up East ridge on Drosgol, then Banc Llechwedd-mawr before back to bridge and start point.nordicstar22/02/2016
Parked at road end nr Maesnant. Up the stream line almost direct to the top of Plynlimon. Easy walk. Carried on round above the corrie and down the ridge/ valley line towards the new bridge. Out to Drosgol first and then back and over BLM. About 5 hours. Mostly ok underfoot and the bridges were handy.jenx22/02/2016

Climbed Carn Hyddgen then descended SW continuing to Banc Llechedd-mawr. Descended steeply SE down grass/heather slopes. With SH and Ron.wombourne14/05/2014
Start ~ 775880, end of road at Maesnant. Followed a good track to the Southern end of the hill and climbed north to the twin cairned summit of Carn Hyddgen. Descended West crossing the Afon Hyddgen at a sharp bend before making our way up Banc Llechwedd-Mawr from the North. Descended due south to new footbridge over the Afon Hengwm.steve hudson14/05/2014
climbed with Jon. not such a nice day, but fairly easy apart from getting the feet and boots really wet on the way back. we decided to cut the corner and wade through the river.tallblond19/11/2012
