Nabbed this one on its own today. Easy enough. I was glad that at least half the distance was reasonable under foot.simocity16/03/2024
Nuttall Walk: EN 12.7 Yockenthwaite Moor, Horse Head Moor, and Birks Fell from Buckden. A beautiful sunny day, with extensive views. Ground very wet underfoot. 23km with 850m ascent taking 7 hours.silverwolf_alan11/12/2023
Parked at Yockenthwaite then up Strans Gill using rope on awkward diff climbing pitch. Left Gill after footbridge then straight across pasture and moor to ruined shepherd hut (well worth a visit) then summit trig with superb views on a day of sun and rain. Cross country straight back down. 7.7 km in 2 hours 25 mins with Ed.John Eley27/08/2023
From Hubberholme via Nuttalls route. The top was passable after the long dry spell, but met with thunderstorms and torrential rain on the way down. Back to Kettlewell campsite with the DMC crew.dchill0115/07/2023
From Hubberholme village: Yockenthwaite, Horse Head Moor and Birks Fell. Glorious summer day, warm and sunny throughout. Virtually all boggy areas were dry, despite how early in the year it was.Lazylizzie20/05/2023
With Tony & John. Dales 30 no 26LANGDALE25/08/2022
Ascended from Hubberholme past Scar House. Trackless to the summit. Managed to avoid bogs after the long period of hot weather. Descended down to yockenthwaite farm and then returned to Hubberholme via the river. Roughly 9.5kmpearsj2024/07/2022
Park on the roadside opposite Hubberholme church. Followed Nuttalls route 12.7. Ideal time to do this as ground pretty dry. Clear day with great views and lovely walk back along the Dales Way from Yockenthwaite to Hubberholme. 6.1 miles, Strava said 2hrs 40cwalking time which was at a leisurely pace. Was out just over 3hrs all in.JulieB07/06/2022
From Hubberholme good path most of the way.colinfielding12/05/2022

From Hubberholme, in thick mist and rain. Bogs dry otherwise it would have been appalling. Descent direct to Yockenthwaite much drier, and would recommend as an ascent route.Rockdoctor03/07/2021
Pleasant evening round walk from the east.Nick Canute07/06/2021
With Jonny. Grim and rainy!zaul_uk08/04/2021

With Jenx and Bryher from road below farm. Good tracks all way to 530m, then rougher ground following animal tracks. Final English Nuttall, Hewitt, Bridge, Buxton&Lewis and Simm.nordicstar04/11/2020

Walked up from hamlet of Yockenthwaite (on a very wet and windy afternoon).RobB10/03/2020
Verge parking at SD 9046 7899. RoW to SD 9077 7916 then continued on farm track until that run out after which it was the usual rough moorland. Useful gate at SD 9080 8029. Blizzard conditions above 600m, nice little stone shelter at 630m (SD 9085 8084).jonglew11/12/2019
Nuttalls route. Hill fog on the summit ridge and plenty of swampy ground due to recent heavy rainfallGary Heath20/08/2019
Hubberholme > Yokenthwaite Moor > Horse Head Trig point > Horse Head Moor > Birks Fell Summit> Birks Fell Trig > Redmire Farm > HubberholmeLongwojo14/07/2019
From Raisgill where I had stayed the night. Down road, over bridge through farm, diagonally up track then up ATV tracks and head off across the moor to trig. 4.33 miles, 1 hour 32.clivevilla26/04/2019
Walk up from Hubberholme via Scar House and then on to the open fell where I followed the wall to close to the summit. The summit was in thick fog and it was a swamp morass. Not pleasant in trainers! Returned by same route. Saw Raven, Red Grouse, Red Legged Partridges, Pheasant, Meadow Pipits, Skylarks, Brown Hare and Rabitts. Weather was mostly dry but the earlier rain left the hill sodden. Time 2 hours 15 minutes for 5.35 miles.isabelle22/08/2018
With Jacqui, lovely dry and warm day. Started from Yockenthwaite and loop via Cray and Hubberholme after direct ascent and descent to summit. The infamous peat hags were very tame after the exceptionally dry summer. Lovely views across Wharfedale, Bishopdate and across to three peakspatriciagill05/08/2018

From Gilbert Lane. Surprisingly dry.peter4lc28/06/2018
with Stu Myers, from Hubberholme. perfect conditions.IanHHill25/06/2018
From Woldside. Airy traverse in fine weather, impressive silhouettes of big fells. Feeling a bit drained on the way back as not had much to eat, not done much walking lately and feeling the previous day's bike ride. Returned to Long Slack Gate. 3 hrs.Wycombe Wanderer28/05/2018
Reached on the Fellsman from the view point on the edge of fleet moss, leaving via Hells Gap and down to Craydanielmudd198228/04/2018
As per Nuttall's 12.7. Glorious sunny spring day, mostly pathless on the top but no difficulties and the riverside return to Hubberholme was a delight.milimana19/04/2018
Climbed from Yockenthwaite, surprisingly drytomd426/01/2018
From Yockenthwaite. Undefined after the track runs out.Peter_W_Mitchell 01/07/2017
From Yockenthwaite. Quite dry underfoot. Went on to bag the minor top Cragdale Moor.Alan Caine15/04/2017
Parked near the bridge at Yockenthwaite. We went over the bridge and followed the right of way towards Cray. We then stayed on the track that climb the bottom of the hill, then ascended easy slopes to the plateau. The peat hags near the top took some negotiating but could have been worse. With JT and HT.Sprog02/04/2017
From Gilbert Lañe. Sunny day with good views but cold wind. Easy going as most of bog covered by ice and patches of hard snow.Winterfloodian30/11/2016
From Yockenthwaite. Parked on roadside. Followed old track until it petered out then aimed for obvious rocky outcrop on skyline. From there just picked a way up, keeping on the higher ground which was suprisingly dry. Was only the last 200m to the trig pillar where a mazy weave through the peat groughs was needed. Pillar is in a poor state but the view of the 3peaks from here is stunning. Descent direct. The hut would be okay to shelter maybe 2 walkers in a cloudburst but you couldnt overnight in it. Very wet in the vicinity of it too.stig_nest01/10/2016
14.9 mile walk from Buckden along river to Yockenthwaite, up and down same way to Yockenthwaite Moor, thought this one would be terrible for bog but not problem at all today, stumbled across stone hut then trig, back down to Yockenthwaite and up to Horse Head Trig and along grassy trails to Horse Head Moor cairns, continued along ridge to Birks Fell, surprisingly wetter than Yockenthwaite Moor, to cairn, then along dry ridge to Firth Fell trig and back down to Buckden. Great day, hot and sunny with high cloud but with nice breeze.DanTrig06/08/2016
Nuttall Walk EN 12.7 Yockenthwaite Moor and Birks Fell from Hubberholme. 19km with 820m ascent in 6h 30m. (S)silveracorn_alan29/07/2016
Across from Gilbert Lane and then down south into Hubberholme church(use of two cars). A morning's walk before heading back south. Not as boggy as expected (thanks to recent dry days) and the promised downpour did not materialise. Great views and a really good walk.ruthatlast24/07/2016
From bridleway to east, room to park for a few cars at start of (Gilbert) lane. Followed boundary fence to trig. Lots of hags & bogs but not too bad today though at wetter times would be. Bit of a slog.mart079704/07/2016
Finally climbed Yockenthwaite Moor. Parked at Buckden, followed the Dales way to Hubberholme, then followed the Nutall route to the summit. Returned to the car via Cray. Brilliant day out, only us on the hill.dianepick26/06/2016
Solo. From Hubberholme. On to Horse Head Trig Point, Birks Fell and then the trig point on Olde Cote Moor Top and then down.Aimless Rambler19/05/2016
ANOTHER FINE DAY. FOLLOWED NUTTALLS WALK 12.7 TO YOCKENTHWAITE MOOR AND BIRKS FELL WHICH ENABLED BOTH TO BE ACCOMPLISHED WITH TOTALLY DRY FEET. A LONG PATHLESS ASCENT AND DESCENT OF YOCKENTHWAITE MOOR BUT EASY TERRAIN AND FABULOUS VIEWS. EASY PATHS OVER BIRKS FELL BUT A STEEP ASCENT TO THE COL.BURGESS14/05/2016
As part of the Fellsman before they moved the checkpoint in later years. I think it was probably after midnight by the time I got there so the 17th rather than the 16th!dickscroop15/04/2016
Approached from the bridleway to the east. In poor visibility (such as today) the fenceline provides a useful handrail, use it loosely and you can avoid the worst of the peat bogs.JohnStoneham18/10/2015
