Remorseless slog up from the valley to get on to the Grey Corries ridge | Mark Sims | 25/08/2021 |
Solo clockwise route covering the three Grey Corries (and all tops except Sgurr Choinnich Beag) - mix of clag and blue skies during the day, and a recent layer of wet/unstable snow on the ridge - not enough to make B3s and crampons worthwhile but careful footing in places made for a slow pace above 800m. 8h 30m from car back to car. | mproudfoot | 28/11/2020 |
I had a very long but great day on the Grey Corries circuit, parking at the end of the private track south of Coire Choille Farm at 9am, then following the walkhighlands route up the horibly boggy slope to the 1st Munro Top of Stob Coire na Gaibhre (958m). I detoured off the route (spending an hour) to bag the 2nd Munro Top of Stob Coire na Ceannain (1123m). Then back to the main ridge and up the 1st Munro of Stob Choire Claurigh (1177m). Further along i crossed over the 3rd, 4th & 5th Munro Tops of Stob a' Choire Leith (1105m), Stob Coire Cath na Sine (1079m) & Caisteal (1106m). The ridge then leading to the 2nd Munro of Stob Coire an Laoigh (1117m), followed by the 6th Munro Top of Stob Coire Easain (1080m). From here madness took over and i continued over to the oulying 3rd Munro of Sgurr Choinnich Mor (1094m).

From where I had to reascend the 6th Munro Top (reaching the summit again at 18:00), to reach the 7th Munro Top of Beinn na Socaich (1005m).

Finally to get on to the Grey Corries!! straight up the north ridge of STob Coire Clauridh via the N Top, out to Nan Ceannain and back. west of SCC I meet Tom Hayle a man in his late 70's from the Wirral and learn that he's done two Munro rounds and one completion of the tops but is a non declarer to SMC I go right along ridge to west to Sgurr Coineach Beag and then all the way back again and after getting back to Caisteal again head off the northern slopes contouring round to get on to Stob Ban and after steeply off this in the deepening gloom I call in at the bothy in the valey where some kind resident gives me a hot cuppa before I hoof my way back the 6-7km back to where I'd brought my car up the track util I'd found a locked gate at about half past midnight with still much residual light on this glorious day.
