I'd been along the edge below this many times. Today I decided I'd go to the top. The edge is much nicer.Alan Moore28/07/2023
KJ Visited on a walk from Trevor Rocks car park taking in the top and foot of the stunning Eglwyseg escarpment on a sunny day with a refreshing breeze. From most directions heather and bilberry make for tough walking to the summit. However there is a very good and clear ATV track running from the path to the W marked on the 1:25000 OS at SJ228465 up to the summit of the hill and on round to near the trig.crazy30/05/2023

Great walk.JulieB01/10/2022

As Aye Jimmy for Cefn y Cist and Eglwyseg. Wrexham tumps completed.David Evans22/12/2019
Started as Sprog but missed some of the quad track resulting in wading through heather. Found the track all the way back. Pleasant bog walking.Campbell Singer27/10/2019
Parked to the north of World's End, where the road leaves the forest and by the cattle grid. Took a track to Pt.470, from where an atv track went all the way to the summit of Eglwyseg Mountain. We then ascended Cefn y Cyst and Esclusham Mountain on atv tracks and rough heather and bilberry moor when the atv tracks ran out. A road walk took us back to the car. With JT.Sprog25/05/2019
From Rock Farm, up the delightful limestone cwm, several climbers on the crags above, Sadly, the heather flatness above was less exciting; glad of the vehicle tracksColin Crawford01/04/2019
3/3 Eglwyseg range. Wanted to this for around 15 years, eyeing it longingly every time I drove to Wrexham. Just didn't get round to it for some reason, I guess I presumed it would be a bit of a navigational nightmare. There are actually many paths in the network up here, to the point where you are spoilt for choice and it becomes confusing. Many grouse, much heather. Wrexham's big brown hill, lovely. It is clear that Cyrn y Brain is the boss from here, though.tumpawumpa02/01/2019
Carried on after field trip to the escarpment looking for the Llangollen Whitebeam.JohnIvor04/06/2018
From Ponderosa. Cyrn-Y-Brain, Cefn-Y-Cist and Eglwyseg Mountain. Lovely day. Cold and clear with plenty of snow still on the tops.Alunrees3306/02/2018
From Cefn y Cist, some poor tracks here and there if you find them, otherwise rough going. Nice summit.Aye Jimmy30/01/2018
From offa's dyke path up footpath/cliff to eglywseg plantation (fairly tricky ascent) then more or less due north to summit. Probably not again.nwormgage07/07/2017
After Cefn y Cist. Snares across path & a dead Black Grouse. Last 1/2 km through knee deep heather. Hard going.ngthack21/02/2017
From Penycae via the Airmans Grave, and on to trig point after.mad max29/09/2016
Cyrn y Brain, Foel, Eglwyseg Mountain, Cefn y Cist. Climbed from Offa's Dyke via path to south of Craig Arthur. Found path at top of climb and followed to right along edge a short way to waymarked post. Turning uphill here there was a faint path through heather. After it faded only a short heather bash to good track. Followed track to right until a good path to summit appeared just before the brow.ijpowell16/09/2016
Parked at 233485 and followed the track to the way post as GB previously. Track uphill shortly after this takes you close to the summit and avoid heather bashing. Solo walk of 80 minutes and 3.84 miles. Drove up the spectacular Eglwyseg valley in good conditions after awful weather earlier.bolton29/04/2016
Number two of two summits on this walk. Sunny intervals. Castell Dinas Bran (321m) and Eglwyseg Mountain (502m) from Llangollen. Returning via Clwydian Way, Valle Crucis Abbey, Horseshoe Falls and Llangollen canal. Distance = 21.57km. Average moving speed = 4.8km/h. Time moving = 4:31. Ascent = 682m.paulnewby8110/04/2016
From hairpin on panorama. A thiroughly enjoyable yomp up initially cropped grass to the Egwylyseg plantation. From here I headed pretty much direct for the pillar. Crossing the cultivated fields which in practice are just grazing fields. Large boulders in the far corner. From here a thin path leads to the left side of a small stand of pines. Some trackless heather fording to a point midway between trig and summit.on way from summit to trig a young gamekeeper turned up on quad. Had a lengthy chat about access, the working environment.stig_nest16/03/2016
From SJ232484. Almost all on tracks made by the grouse gravel container refillers in their vehicles. Fine viewsjimbloomer10/03/2016
As Des Taylor, parked at start of track on minor road at 232484 (Room for 1 or 2 cars) - Followed excellent track around World's End to waymarker post at 235474 - Left main track & headed W & then SW up ATV track to good path at 229470 - S up path to junction with ATV track at 229466 - SSE up ATV track to summit. No heather bashing! (S)gerrybowes15/02/2016
From Worlds End as a circular walk to complete a section of Offa's Dyke. With SH and PR.wombourne11/01/2016
Start ~232484. Followed Offa's Dyke path south to below Craig Arthur and then took a good path up to the top of the crags. A good track leads from there to the summit. Panoramic views of the snowy tops to the west. Followed good tracks North back direct to the car. With Wombourne.steve hudson11/01/2016
After visiting pillar near by.Dusty08/08/2015
From minor road to WNW of Cefn y Cist. Parked just as the road emerges from the woods. There is a path opposite which heads in the right direction although there was a bit of heather bashing involved.clivevilla07/08/2015
7/9 Long walk up from top of forest and not a clear track all the way !Fergalh09/05/2015
From SJ 22130 44068 via the standing stone and the trig pillar - returned along the crag tops.summitsup01/05/2015
Great 360 view of surrounding area. I walked up from Penycae, then through newtown forrest and over ruabon mountain to the trig point. Then went north to the cairn @ 511m, then to the airmans grave @ OS 256 24/47, then back to rhos mountain and back into Penycae, about 8 miles. Note: for final 100m assent you do need to come off the beaten track and go through the heather to reach the summit, but well worth it.Welshmanwalking21/04/2015
Nice 11 mile circular from Pentrefelin, walked along canal in rainy weather, up to Castell Dinas Bran, thought about turning back but suddenly the weather completely cleared, walked up along ridge onto the wet Eglwyseg Mountain (trig and summit) picked up Clwydian Way and back along field paths to Pentrefelin.DanTrig05/12/2014
From eglwysyg via rock farm. Dreary trudge across heather to sumit. No path. Uninteresting. Better of sticking the the panorama path.treborconde27/10/2014
From Penycae past the reservoir then on up ROW, trig pioint and summit before dropping straight down using the patchwork network to avoid the heather.SS20/07/2014
From Cefn y cist. Nice view from the summit.JohnStoneham22/03/2014
