Parking 200m SW of Shorthope in large off-road area (NT218124). Back to Shorthope where forest road to ENE is barred by a No Access Unless Authorised sign (but nothing about who, or where, to get authorisation). Instead, took grassy track SW, zig, to a quarry, then an indistinct zag L, which then joins the main zig drag S up onto Lochy Law and on to Black Knowe. That’s the end of the easy stuff for the day. Verging on purgatorial veg from Black Knowe to Cauld Face (bizarre picnic table with benches beside trig point in this pathless wasteland). Easy onto Hope Head. Beware which firebreak you pick for descent – somehow I ended up in Turner Cleuch, which is a real obstacle course, and delivered me to the riverside E of Brockhoperig and then a km back W along the river bank, in purgatorial veg, to Shorthope.Isbjorn16/04/2023
From Ettrick. Wedder Law by route described with others, continued to Hope Head, Cauld Face with its picnic table, out and back to Windlestraw Law, on to Black Knowe, Lochy Law and descent to the Glen leading to Ettrick.RobertP28/01/2022
From cattle grid ~100m NE of bridge at Nether Phawhope. Up to Lochy Loch first then across to here on good ground. On to Phawhope Hill. Pleasant 5.4km round.jonglew01/10/2021
Parked opposite the bridge at Shorthope. Across the bridge and turned right almost immediately at a wooden gate onto an old track leading to a quarry. Clambered up around the quarry edge and along grass, then popped through between a couple of trees to another old track. On up over Lochy Law following a wall, then a grassy ATV track to the summit. Carried on to the 548 point, then to Cauld Face and Hope Head.LizH15/08/2021
Parked opposite entrance to Shorthope for a circuit of Lochy Law, Black Knowe, Cauld Face and Hope Head. Followed wall from Lochy Law to Black Knowe.PGCE19/03/2021
As SS. Parked in wide entrance to forest track at NT 2680 0870 & up Cauld Face & Hope Head. From Hope Head, headed S. back to fence/wall junction & then WSW along fence line; tough going over heather & tussock until reaching wall at 239111 - Followed wall WSW & then NNW over much easier terrain to the unmarked summit. Back to wall junction & down Shorthope Sike; some fallen trees, but these easily bypassed through mature trees in forest - Track down to Over Dalgliesh & short road walk back to car. From end of track at northern of two bridges by Over Dalgliesh then up through trees at northern point on track to Cauld Face and its picnic bench! Pretty tough going then to Hope Head and back over to Black Knowe. Returned by coming down Shorthope Sike to the track and back to car.SS04/11/2018

P Shorthope on rd. Disused F track then up to Lochy Law - Black Knowe - inbetween fence and wall towards Cauld Face. Got worse and worse underfoot from Over Craig onwards. Trig then wall / fence to Hope Head. Down fire break towards Rashie Sike bad then track to car.chrisbien14/09/2014
