From the lower White Horse car park, sidepaths very muddy so a bit of a detour around the muddy paths through the woods, good little topmatty1971b02/03/2024

As others. From unsigned parking area to SW at SE 4978 8058 along path & first right up through woodland to ridge; swathes of bluebells have recently started to flower - N. along ridge for about 500m to high point of hillfort which lies just beyond defensive ditch.gerrybowes03/05/2023

Superb! Tump of the day.Wycombe Wanderer05/06/2021
From Osgoodby Bank carpark to the SW. Took first turn on the right and followed path to the top. A pleasant top but view spoilt by the trees. I shouldn't complain too much as, because it is a wood, there is good access to the whole hill.Alan Moore04/09/2020
Easy walk up forest tracks and paths from north. Obvious path down (or up!) south of thesummit is a mountain bike decent, so be prepared to hop off the path quick sharp!MrChris198024/07/2020
After wandering up to the White Horse and back. Before homemade curry in the van for dinner.Fionalevey23/05/2020
From car parking area to SW, taking first turning R and then following the path onto the surprisingly clear summit ridge to the hill fort top. A very enjoyable hill.Nick Down131/08/2019
Delightful final hill of Topo region Q09 with a proper climb of nearly 140m from SW up through forest on good tracks and paths with sunset on the summit made it a delight.vegibagger24/09/2018
Loop from Acre House, to the superb hood hill then south down easy ground to less good Ward Oak Hill and a sunken FP back to Acrenordicstar03/05/2018
From the lower White Horse car park.Clach Liath29/12/2017
Ascended up South ridge via a myriad of well used( some muddy) forest tracks from road to west. Ancient hill fort with nice views including modern white horseDenise 02/12/2017
Via S ridge, summit hill fort.RichardM02/12/2017
From cp at 515806. Followed bw to jct at 507814. Small path leads to s then w rising through the woods. Reaches open Heather ridge at 504812 then straight up ridge. Gt views.Moorponder15/08/2017
A myriad of paths abound in the surrounding trees. Best option is to park BELOW the White Horse (alt 708ft) and follow the green circles with black arrows inside which lead on a 3 mile circular walk via the summit (about 90 minutes)moorsman16/02/2017
No 2 of a 7 Tump circular walk with Darren from Kilburn. Found good path up from SW. Underneath the take off path of gliders and their tug plane. Later camped at car park below the White Horse that night (collected a load of rubbish) then next day an impromptu visit to the glider club for a very friendly welcome and a tour of club and a glider along with a bacon butty and mug of tea, then attended weather briefing which was useful for tump bagging plans, although icing at 8000 feet was not a concern for us. Long cross country flights are a challenge of the sport with untold no. of stories of forced landings in fields when lift runs out -oddly farmers /landowners often make the pilot welcome with tea and cakes whilst awaiting the pick up truck. Sounds like a good way to get at those difficult GOML hills perhaps?Chris Pearson26/07/2016
Parked at (lowest)White Horse Bank car park and walked along Bridleway past Acre House. Then tried to follow tracks through wood as shown on map.Big mistake!Eventually, found good clear path from south-west to pleasant top.Returned down what must be an exciting cycle track to Bridleway. With Oscar.catman21/07/2016

A really busy day at Sutton Bank with a 10k race going on so we headed for Hood Hill as we haven't taken our daughter there yet. Met hardly anyone and it was lovely. Super views, could see the minster. Got lost on the way down in the forest and introduced our daughter to bush bashing.familybreeze24/04/2016
Used the White Horse carpark but, due to a cross-country run taking part in the woods, approached from an ESE direction avoiding major paths.JohnStoneham17/04/2016

With Bev taking a really bad route off piste through nettles and pouring rain. Suggest parking at the white horse car park and not what I did.simon and co09/06/2014
Ran up from Little Thirkleby. Best way is to approach from the north, decent path up it that way.stever02/10/2013
From carpark below White Horse, diagonal muddy track led down to the valley and the 'Fire Road' as a local called it. Crossed this, another muddy path led up the other side. By contrast, summit ridge was clear of trees and very pleasant. Highest point is ground next to path.Aye Jimmy03/03/2013
Goska, over white horse down bridle way to track, through woods over top and back to car park. Sunny. Finished with ice cream in car park.Mountain Goat17/02/2013

White horse car park along top to visitors centre then back along into the forest and onto Hood Hill. A fantastic little peak.outdoorgirl06/05/2012
Ascended from the White Horse car park via a roundabout route from the north, should have just followed the green way-markers as this route goes right over the summit. yorkie22/02/2012
Kilburn Woods, Hood Hill, Gormire Lake, Whitestone Cliff, sutton Bank, Kilburn White Horse return via field paths. With Jessica. Cool, windy but mainly sunny.PaulH18/02/2012
