Parked on the A701 above the Devils's Beef Tub and then Whitehope Heights and Hart Fell. Down into Annandale and then a hard climb up the side of the Devil's beef tub. Lovely views today.tsharp17/04/2024
A very pleasant day for mid February with scenic long range views and mild temperatures to leisurely enjoy up at the top for half an hour or so this afternoon.Alex C16/02/2024

On to Falcon Crag, Hart Fell, Great Hill, Firthybrig Head, Lochcraig Head, Paper Hill, Muckle Knees, Craigdilly, Oxcleuch Rig. Diversion from Southern Upland Way to Peat Hill on return leg. Horseshoe from Blackshope – although new “no parking” signs made me park at a layby further north. Looped clockwise. Glorious sunny, blue-sky morning but once on ridge, clag descended, only lifting very occasionally after summit. Rounsfell04/11/2022
Parked at Blackhope on the A708, headed up the braken covered slope on the right hand side of the Hang Gill. Seen a goat on his own that let me get within 20m. By the time I reached the top of Nether Coomb Craig, the mist had started to clear, leaving blue skies behind. Finding the summit of Swatte Fell, involved a walk west along the stone dyke. Falcon Craig has a wee cairn west of the fence line. Hart Fell (a repeat hill for me) has a classic trig pillar. The walked around to the yokes, involved a drop into the boggy valley south of Cape Law, above Whirly Gill, but there is a clear path through it, that keeps you relatively high. Once on Under Saddle Yoke, the views into Carrifan showed the rewilding project is really taking hold. Short ascent to Saddle Yoke, then the descent back to Blackhope, during which I seen a flock of 8 goats. Dry all day, 06:10hrs all in.chillyman810/09/2022
From Fruid Reservoir out to Din Law then Cape Law and on to Saddle Yoke and its arete. Returned by Hartfell Rig to Hart Fell then followed fence and wall back to Fruid and back to reservoir car park.SS01/09/2022
After Whitehope Knowe, down and then followed the path up to the cairn/trig summit.JAdair9713/08/2022

Clockwise around the horseshoe above Blackhope Burn. Superb day.the pigguy 24/03/2022
PMC Day Meet, with Dave Scott: Had planned on doing the standard Hart Fell circuit around Blackhope Burn, but there signs on the A708 saying road closed. So prked on the A701 at the forestry gate north of the Devil's Beef Tub layby. Headed up Annanhead Hill, Chalk Rig Edge, then along to Whitehope Heights and Whitehope Knowe, dropped down then ascended up to Hart Fell, for 1pm three hours after starting. Descended down a boggy atv track over Arthur's Seat and down to Eirkstane Farm, ten followed the Annandale Way back to the car. Windy, but mainly dry and overcast.chillyman813/03/2022

Private No Parking signs at Blackshope, so parked in layby 200m NE. From Capplegill a good ATV track sidles SW up the hillside at an amenable angle, then NNE almost to the top of Nether Coomb Craig. ATV continues on over Swatte Fell, Falcon Craig and Hart Fell before descending to col at NT133142. From col a path sidles slightly upwards along the W flank of Raven Craig for Under Saddle Yoke and Saddle Yoke. The descent SSE from Saddle Yoke is steep slippery grassIsbjorn13/10/2021

On a circuit of Black Hope, from parking at NT 1470 0984 - with room for six cars. Had read many walk reports of horrible ascents to Nether Coomb Craig, heading up to the NE of Hang Gill. Decided to avoid that pain. Found perfect track all the way up to Black Hope ridge. From gate SW of Capplegill farm at NT 1433 0959, track leads SW up Rabbit Brae to NT 1359 0909, before turning towards the summit. Much less steep route, on good dry track. Nether Coomb Craig, Swatte Fell, Falcon Craig, Hart Fell, Under Saddle Yoke, Saddle Yoke.Toby-and-Dion31/07/2021
Solo fr S of Ericstane, after driving fr Penrith. Fairly good path, good gradient for bits of jogging, 2h up and down, clear skies and warm sunshine at times (ran nearly the whole way down). Weather great as an anticyclone is building. Bit of a breeze on top but pleasant. (Dull compared with Highlands of course!). Drove to Lockerbie Tesco and hotel at Annandale Water Services J16.NorfolkPT2114/07/2021

Good parking NT 1543 1050. Field gate and steeply up over rough sheep pasture via 494m spot height to Saddle Yoke -> Under Saddle Yoke -> Cape Law then across to here. On to Falcon Craig -> Swatte Fell -> Nether Coomb Craig, dropping down to Capplegill and along road to car for an 11 mile round. All Dumfries-shire hills on HB now ticked off.jonglew29/05/2021

From Capple Gill with Ewan& Stevie: Under Saddle Yoke and round to Hart Fell. Lots of snow. Aborted at Hart Fell to descend to Blackhope.jigglybones28/12/2020
Parked by Blackshope cottage, W a short way along road, then through pasture and up hill E side of Hang Burn to Nether Coomb Craig, continuing along ridges to Swatte Fell, Falcon Craig, Hart Fell, E over Hartfell Rig up to near 709m spot, out and back to Cape Law, then S via Redgill Craig to Under Saddle Yoke and Saddle Yoke, descending down to Blackshope.kdbennett27/09/2020
From the community centre south of Newton, then northwards along the Annandale Way. Lost the path higher up the hill but a fortuitous stone then grass track took us directly to Pt.565 east of Spout Craig. The two Whitehope tops were surmounted easily enough, before a drop and steep climb up the NW face of Hart Fell. Falcon Crag, Swatte Fell and Nether Coomb Craig were quickly bagged on a gin-clear windless morning, returning to Swatte Fell for an easy descent on an ATV track back to the community centre via Blue Cairn and Mountainblow. Fab walk. About 4hrs.summitter27/09/2020
Escaped from the crazy weather that was forecast for the Northern half of Scotland, with John and Harrison, to hit up the Hart Fell horseshoe with Under Saddle Yoke and Swatte Fell (including tops Saddle Yoke, Falcon Craig and Nether Coombe Craig) - good visibility and conditions, if a little windy on the tops - 4hrs 1min in total.mproudfoot12/09/2020

With David Alexander, using 2 cars. Parked at top of Beef Tub (10:40) and followed Annandale Way initially round the rim over various tops and cols and eventually up the long final ascent to Hart Fell (13:30). Dry apart from one brief early shower, then increasingly fine. Saw a merlin. Long views over the surrounding hills to the Ochils, Cheviots and Lake District. From the summit folowed county boundary over Hartfell Rig and then the superb ridge NE of Blackhope valley down to the second car at Capplegill (16:25). Good path all the way, a bit wet in places.dbb02/08/2020
