| Walked up from Charterhouse via the wireless station. Weather started off with a bit of drizzle and progressed to heavy rain. Good to get out had the hill to myself; still a few snow patches here and there especially behind the walls and hedges. Saw Stonechats Skylarks Raven Robin Fieldfares and a few Gulls. | Beautiful walk. Stopped by one of the caves on the way back and did a figure of 8 walk from the Burrington Ham car park, to the peak, round, and then to the nature reserve. Breathtaking views all around and really beautiful scenery. | First of 3: Mendips, Quantocks, Blackdown Hills on way to Cornwall with J. Superb weather. From the parking area on the B3134, up the tree lined track & then half R passing lots of wild ponies to a great view. Varied the descent by heading SE & then NE on a curving path. | Did a circular loop from Cheddar heading up into the Mendips and round to Beacon Batch, following the path past the wireless station and through Charterhouse, took a wrong turn and had to walk down Cliff Road rather than follow the West Mendip Way as intended. Rejoined at Black Rock and followed the West Mendip Way until the split in the path to head towards Pulpit Rock and the lookout tower, decended back into Cheddar. | lboutside | 23/03/2020 |
